"If you could effect one major policy change in the governing of your country, what would it be? > Introduce the First Amendment into UK law."While I agree with this, it is a bit of a cheat, since this would involve at least four major policy changes: disestablishment of religion (we have established religion), freedom of speech (which is abridged in UK), freedom of the press (abridged in UK), right to peaceful assembly (curtailed in UK)."Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
I do like the comment that as a working-class tory you feel (residually) mistrustful of middle-class socialists. The same often goes in reverse. One oxymoron seems to be unable to accept the other...
Cheers cheers rah rah rah* for the First Amendment comment. It's always been the thing I've most admired about America.** We desperately need it and we'd almost certainly take better care of it than they have!*actually I'm an upper-middle-class anarcho-transhumanist (too much Iain M Banks at a formative age), but y'know.**well, that and the hundreds of flavours of ice cream they have there.
